The first episode is all about setting the scene and introducing a few people. At this point, the producers have no idea who will be good on camera. It's noticeable that a few personalities came through, later on, presumably the editors found they were good and concentrated on them - leading the later shows when we know what's going on and who's doing it to work better. It seemed as if we had taken a step backward and they were going to accentuate the 'weirdo trainspotter' clichés. However this warmed up to be a cracking piece of TV, though I found myself yelling at why they were matching a top heavy 16mm loco with laterally uneven track with the inevitable falling off. A steam-powered O gauge loco would have had a slightly lower centre of gravity. Highly entertaining, excepting the team supervisor that I wanted to slap every time he appeared.Chris Fordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17126638769396595508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20340207.post-87061642815558623162018-02-05T19:37:49.934+00:002018-02-05T19:37:49.934+00:00A good summing up of how the hobby has presented i...A good summing up of how the hobby has presented itself in response to this show. The obvious response to those who didn't like it is to ask what type of programme they think could address some of the issues whilst still attracting a worthwhile audience.

Oddly I do have some ideas about that if any TV producers want to talk to me. The most obvious thing to do is to give it more historical and social context. We made best use of the time and material under trying weather conditions, but it was a team effort. It is interesting how the show has divided opinion, but the reason I took part was to inspire people and that has definitely happened. I would like to have received credit for my critical input to the helix, but I still had a great time doing this show.Simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03662827873844859968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20340207.post-10413177519176282522018-02-05T09:34:23.396+00:002018-02-05T09:34:23.396+00:00The attitude of the builders reminded me more of m...The attitude of the builders reminded me more of my RC plane days ie getting a model of something to perform in real world conditions rather than making the terrain fit the model. I suspect the producers didn’t get upset over the many challenges posed by the terrain as this gave them the opportunity to explain many aspects of real world practices. The track used looked interesting and must have applications where you want to have track that’s overgrown %Mr Taylor Anthonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00406976471726387380noreply@blogger.com
