Some of you may know that for the last few years, I've been working with my friend Candice writing a novel. Well, today is the big day that it goes on sale!
Kate vs The Dirtboffins started out as a few random ideas thrown around by people stuck in the first quango to be closed down by the last government. We had to go in each day to be paid, but there was literally nothing to do.
Chatting (as you do) someone suggested we should set up a "change management" company to help close down all the other bits of government that were due for the chop. From there we came up with our characters and took it from there.
The process has taken over 5 years - mostly because real life kept getting in the way.
Somehow, despite me having never read any, the book became a little bit chick-lit as well as a lot Tom Sharpe with great big dollops of humour. With our commercial head on, these are the two most popular genres so lets hope for a few sales. Don't let the girlie cover put you off, it's readable by both sexes.
Along the way, I've read a lot, visited literary festivals and met proper writers and enjoyed the process a lot. If anyone thinks they have a book in them, go for it. Writing is (mostly) fun. Writing as a team is even more so with the added benefit of cake during those important meetings to discuss the plot.
Anyway, head over to our writing blog for more details and to buy your copy!
In other news: This is the 3500th post on this blog!
Good luck, Phil, I hope it does well!
ReplyDeleteDoes the teacake (Tunnocks I should hope) come with the book, or do you need to supply your own?
ReplyDeleteGood luck anyway, and don't get ripped off by Holywood types when the film is made...
Purchased, as Christmas holiday shopping reading...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, must be very satisfying to actually having done it, rather than just dreaming about it. I like that it's jointly authored. I'm hoping to do a book together with my adult daughter at some point, so thanks for showing that it can be done.
ReplyDeletePS: Just found the Wordpress blog, you have a draft for book 2 ready in 28 days. Very impressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support everyone. I don't expect to become rich from this but it's been a fun project.
ReplyDeleteMikkel: That deadline is scary and we'll probably only just make it with a first draft that needs a lot of work. Joint authored books are easier than solo effort in one way - there's always someone to spur you on and act as a sounding board for ideas. This works best over cake!
Well done Phil. Mine is well underway and fitting the writing round two day jobs and other activities is hard work. Hope it gets published.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cake tip, adds to the motivation :-)
