Does anyone remember the April Fool's story in Railway Modeller years ago, where someone had built their layout under the floorboards of the house? I know I was fooled by it for a long while.
Well, it seems that life follows art, and here we have a special effects laden video showing someone really building a miniature railway in the crawl space under their floorboards.
That's brilliant...mad as a box of frogs but actually a good solution to a problem and some neat engineering. Liking the elevator door to the basement as well. It's probably a good thing our house hasn't got a cellar or I'd be getting ideas...

Hello Phil, Don't recall that item but can remember Railway Modeller mag in I think the mid 70's doing an item either on a layout or a proposed layout of the London Underground under the floor boards. Where stations were located there was a perspex panel to see the train. At the time it had a few people fooled but that was an age where we were perhaps more believing of the media or behaps they were more trust worth? I am not quiet of an age to have seen the original but I do remember the BBC documentary on Italian Speggheti farms being talked about for years later https://youtu.be/MEqp0x6ajGE it was perhaps one of the best April Fools ever!
ReplyDeleteWhilst on the subject of media April Fool jokes, wasn't there also a TV spoof article about "dehydrated water tablets", some time in the 1970's?
ReplyDeleteHmmm ... .
My Wife's old boarding school (Wroxall Abbey, not far from you Phil) had a railway in the cellar to feed the boilers. I remember seeing it when I got lost down there one day. The Last time I visited, when it was a hotel, the wagon was preserved outside.
