The Porter model locomotive is going to be customised ("Pimped" as da kidz would say) with a Backwoods Miniatures detail kit.
The kit contents are made of etched brass, brass, whitmetal and mostly paper. In fact the box would be a lot smaller if it wasn't for the fulsome instructions that are provided.
In many ways, this isn't a kit. There is such a fantastic array of options available so you can build a loco that is personal to you. Use everything and your locomotive ends up as a 0-4-4 with a huge cab and a rear bogie. The model I build will have the shorter can intended for the 0-4-0 but will have the extra rear pony. Other options will be decided at the time depending what looks good.
Part quality appears to be good. The etches are clean and the whitemetal doesn't appear have any serious flash.
Time for a read.
