October Garden Rail on the shelves

Garden Rail October 2022

As the Gauge 1 Model Railway Association celebrates its 75th birthday, we visit the president's own line, with a show of many of the locos he has designed.

We're getting technical with a look at gearboxes for battery powered models, building a 4WD Simplex with plenty of grunt, a mine and concrete huts, suggesting the top 10 tools for your workbench – and starting our biggest project yet, building a live steam locomotive from a kit. Can a novice put together something that works? We'll find out.

All this and the latest Product News for the large scale model railway enthusiast.

It was nice seeing some of my modelling being praised in the magazine; albeit ambiguously credited to someone else. To be clear that's not a complaint aimed at you Phil, as obviously you work with the material you are sent.

In case anyone wonders what I'm talking about, I designed and 3D printed the highly detailed Simplex radiator Dan Foard adds to his Simplex and describes on page 19. More details on how that was made, along with a bunch of other Simplex detailing parts, may appear in a later edition of Garden Rail as Phil already has my article describing how they came about.

Sorry - I have to go with what I have as you say.

And the orange Simplex is lined up for a future appearance. I just have to space the Simplex articles out a bit. There is at least one more in the queue after you!

Yes, I can imagine that given their popularity you get more than the average number of article on building Simplex locomotives!
