Our “Layout in a day” for the National Garden Railway show might only exist for a few hours, but during that time, we managed to run 14 different locos on it, including some live steam. Enjoy a procession of trains, along with advice for would-be fast garden railway building in this issue.
We also take a look at:
- Building a super-detail Simplex from a very basic kit
- Loading wagons on a budget
- Techniques to make your operation more enjoyable
- Taking a popular exhibition layout on tour
- Building a bridge
- Anglicising an LGB Feldbahn loco
- 3D printing telephone boxes and a newspaper kiosk – complete with free files for you to use
All this plus the latest product news for the modeller in the larger scales.

Okay I'm biased but it's another cracking issue, thanks Phil. It was nice to sit down with my son and the paper copy (which turned up yesterday, thanks) and look at the article and see the Simplex in all it's bright orange glory.
If anyone wants to see even more of the Simplex I did recently record a video all about the build process and design of the extra parts: https://youtu.be/i4ng3KmYFPw
Mark - Glad you liked it. It was nice to have the space to give your piece 4 pages, and being supplied with multiple "hero" shots made my life easier.
Oddly, you have your copy before I do. I sent out all the contributor copies, and haven't received my subs copy yet!
