Warehouse Wednesday: Elend goods shed

Elend Goods Shed

Yes, another picture from Germany. I've had so little modelling time recently, I need to milk my holiday for content.

That said, this is a lovely little building. I'm not sure we used this metal frame with brick infill method in the UK much, but it's all over Europe.

Shooting from the train, I couldn't get a look at the back, but fortunately, Google Streetview can.

Went there 1990 ten days after reunification. Elend means Misery (!)

looks like the sort of building that must be avialable as an HO kit.

Very much so. Travelling around Europe is like being in the Faller catalogue.

I think I've seen some metal frame/brick infill colliery buildings in the UK, can't think of anything other than that. Some buildings on minor railways by A.C. Pain had a similar look, but I think the frames were wooden. This really is a modellogenic building...I like the boarded far end, wonder whether it used to have another structure next to it? Station building perhaps? I like the stop block, too...

Now I've said it, I've spotted a colliery layout where the same iron-framed structure is employed. I agree about the modelling potential of this little building. But obviously, I can never contemplate building something not British godamit!

The foreign stuff is largely my late father's fault...he used to bring me Fleischmann catalogues and the odd bit of rolling stock when I was at an impressionable age!
