Sometimes, work post for me goes to the office, and has to be forwarded on. At Doncaster, my boss handed me a jiffy bag that had just arrived in sunny Bourne.
Inside the packet was this. A Beatties carrier bag, and a postcard.
On the back of the postcard, it just says "Phil. One for your collection" - so I don't know who to thank, but I really appreciate anyone taking the time to pack a bag up, and pop it in the post. Even if the people I work with think I'm odd.
It was not the only bag from the show though. I couldn't resist Anorak's Anonymous's new one.
I know someone is going to shout "AI slop", but I think it's fun. Now, where's my bobble hat...

Works for me...I guess I'm old enough and ugly enough not to care what people think of me or the hobby.
I think I have a similar reaction to yours whenever I see anything from Beatties, it conjures up the excitement of going to the nearest shop (Brighton or one of the London branches in my case) and seeing the diversity of stuff. Even though my interests moved more towards finescale and narrow gauge modelling in my twenties, Beatties still exerted a powerful attraction.
I like the Anoraks Anonymous bag too, very evocative!
Cheers,
Simon.
I remember Beatties in central Birmingham being a wonderful place to visit, even though my pocket money didn't stretch very far in there. That, and the Train Shop in Warwick, fostered my love of a proper model shop. It's not the things you want to buy that are interesting, it's the things you didn't know you wanted, until you get there...
Ah, Beatties. Spent many an hour in the one in Nottingham. Just along from the Central Library then with its excellent railway section. Both just round the corner from where Dad worked. Happy Memories.
