Festive Film Club: Applying electrostatic grass

With everyone full of festive food and looking for some non-challenging stuff to watch, I thought I'd pop a few of the videos I've made for BRM on the blog.

Is there anything that has changed the look of model railway layouts more than the introduction of electrostatic grass?

Here, I show how I apply the magic fibres to a test piece and waive my hands around a lot.

It has led to a massive improvement, but it can look a bit too obviously like static grass now we all know the trick. I always try and combine it with other techniques. I've also learned to be ruthless in deciding a particular type of static fibre doesn't look quite right. That is a hard choice to make when you've spent the cash to buy it.

I'm about to start adding greenery to the current micro layout, and I'm actually regretting that I seem to have used up my stock of foam greenery

It's fair to say that not all static grass is equal. It's worth shopping around a bit for colour and length.

After that, using it isn't a skill-free operation either. It's a modelling material, not magic.
