A working chassis

The motor is back in, and the chassis works!

This is great news as it makes a huge difference to the chances of this project being completed.

One change to the previous lash-up is a blob of No More Nails where the Blu-Tack had been. It still provides the gear mesh, and stops the motor spinning around the retaining screw.

All I need to do now, is fit some pickups, and this heavy beast of a chassis will be trundling along a track. I just hope I didn't mix up the insulted and non-insulated wheels...

Looks good, and it'll be a handy reference for me when I eventually get around to building a chassis for my kit. I've probably got a lot of the parts in stock; there's an old K's 0-4-0 chassis kit somewhere that I may be able to use, and I picked up a brand new motor and gears similar to yours for a fiver at a show a few weeks ago. My side tank has a firebox built up from plastic sheet I think, I'll have to see whether there's room for the motor...
