Saturday Film Club: At Home With JAMES THE TRAINS
"An enthusiast? Certainly. A fanatic? Perhaps. An eccentric? Maybe. But this man's complete devotion to one thing - trains - gives him a peace of mind and an independence that most people will never begin to know."
It is very sad that our culture sees staring at the TV for 12 hours a day when retired as normal, yet having an obsessive hobby that fuels imagination, thirst for further knowledge, and drives use of fine construction skills, is deemed as eccentric, obsessive or weird. Seems to me that average people are fools and anyone who does any form of model making as a hobby is much smarter than the average person realises.
To be fair, this was shot in 1972, and things have changed a lot since then. While model railways are a long way from being cool, there is a bit more respect out there.
